My own novel Davey’s Savior was a seven-year labor of love. While I discuss the writing process elsewhere, I wanted my own novel to present a story to the world that would leave people moved, while showcasing my book-design and publishing skills.

I wrote and edited Davey’s Savior in Scrivener, and when the editing was final I used Adobe InDesign to create a custom template for my book’s look and feel. I traveled to Avila Beach, California to photograph the very pier where the story takes place, and used both Photoshop and InDesign to create the innovative wraparound cover.

I then formatted the novel for CreateSpace publishing standards using InDesign, then created a second version just for Kindle. Once I uploaded both to Amazon’s servers, I priced each competitively for literary fiction and released my work into the world.

Davey’s Savior taught me enough about the independent publishing process that I now coach other writers on how to become a part of this exciting new world of independent publishing. And of my novel, I could not be more proud.
